Abetnegoro currently served as Senior Advisor at Executive Staff Office of President of Indonesia. He is also a board member at Transformasi untuk Keadilan Indonesia since June 2014. Previously, he served as National Executive Director of Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (www.walhi.or.id) since May 2012. Prior to joining WALHI, Abetnego Tarigan served as Executive Director of Sawit Watch (www.sawitwatch.or.id), a non-profit organization that concern on the negative impacts of oil palm plantation system, from 2008 to 2012. Since 2001 until today Abetnego Tarigan involved in various campaigns and advocacy on environmental and social issues related to natural resource management in Indonesia. Actively engaged in developing a wide range of organizations that strengthen the role of civil society in the development of Indonesia, such as Public Interest Lawyer Network (www.pilnet.or.id),Oil Palm Smallholders Association (www.spks.or.id) and Registration of Indigenous Peoples Territory (www.brwa.or.id). At the international level, Mr. Tarigan actively involved in various international forums as a speaker and participant. From 2008 to 2012 he served as Executive Board of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (www.rspo.org) and as Board of Friends of the Earth Asia Pacific in 2012 to 2014. Abetnego Tarigan believes that the advance democratic country must be supported by strong civil society organizations.
