Harry Ponto is the managing partner of Advocate Offices of Kailimang & Ponto, Jakarta. Harry started his career as an advocate in 1993. He is also a licensed legal consultant at the Indonesian Capital Market, a certified mediator, and a lecturer at the Master of Laws Program, Pelita Harapan University, Jakarta.
Prior to pursuing his career as an Advocate, Harry used to work as a journalist in 1989-1990 at Jayakarta Daily, Jakarta. When working with the newspaper, Harry received Adinegoro Award for the category of best journalistic photograph.
Although Harry is known more as a corporate/commercial litigation lawyer, he cannot leave his conscience to also doing pro-bono works. From time to time Harry regularly provides his time for pro-bono work for those who are financially poor or do not have sufficient access to justice. Some public interest cases where Harry involved are People’s Democratic Party case (Partai Rakyat Demokratik/PRD –1996-1997) and BEJ (Jakarta Stock Exchange) Bombing case (2001).
Harry holds a law degree (S.H.) from the Faculty of Law, Pancasila University, Jakarta (1990) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the Washington College of Law, the American University, Washington, D.C., U.S.A. (1994).
Harry involves in various professional and social organizations. He is, for instance, one of the founders of the Indonesian integrated bar, namely the Indonesian Advocates Association (Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia/PERADI) and became its first secretary general (2005-2010). At the Association of Capital Market Legal Consultants (Himpunan Konsultan Hukum Pasar Modal/HKHPM), Harry has been a member of the national board since 2000, and now is one of the Vice Presidents (2009-2012). Currently, Harry is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and the Indonesian Association for Legal Aids and Human Rights (Perhimpunan Bantuan Hukum & Hak Asasi Manusia Indonesia/PBHI).
