John Colombo grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA and earned a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Chinese Literature with minors in Mathematics and Political Science from the University of Minnesota. He later studied nanotechnology at Oxford University through its Postgraduate Certification in Nanotechnology program.
John came to Indonesia through the Fulbright program and taught at a pesantren Islamic boarding school in Central Java. Afterward, he worked in Shanghai before returning to Jakarta as a consultant for power generation developers entering the Indonesian market. He later co-founded a power generation company. Currently, John is Country Director for Asia Power Development Platform (APDP) and Head of Public Policy & Government Affairs for Uber. He is also a founding member of APLSI, a power generation industry trade group, and is on the Board of Trustees of the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF).
